A vacation doesn’t have to be a “production”.

Webster’s dictionary defines the word ‘vacation’ simply as “a respite or a time of respite from something” and also “a period spent away from home or business in travel or recreation.”

How many of us have taken that to mean lots of planning, money and time; or trips that are very costly? How many of us think to ourselves “what I really need is a vacation but I don’t have the time or money?”

What if your vacation is easier to take than you think? What if it’s not costly or time-consuming?

Today we left one activity (that we thought was going to take the afternoon) and we took a spontaneous trip driving 45 minutes to Cedar Key. When the kids asked where we were going we told them we were going on an adventure and they would find out when we got there. We shirked every responsibility we had for the rest of the day… laundry, shopping, and cleaning!

We spent the afternoon playing, picking up shells, laughing, eating ice cream and spending quality time together as a family. We got our clothes wet from getting too much in the water, ate awesome fried fish at a local eatery, and walked in the sand.

It was one of THE BEST days I’ve had with my family in awhile and I feel completely renewed! Today also reminded me that it doesn’t really take all that much to have a vacation, a respite from our daily lives …

Just get in the car, drive and explore someplace new, or someplace you’ve been… just go!
